Adam and Heather Anderson are like any young family – they’re active and constantly on the go with their three kids, ages 16, five and two. When it came time to evaluate their family’s healthcare plan, they opted to include supplemental health insurance coverage as a way to offset out-of-pocket costs not covered by their major medical insurance – a common decision for families on high-deductible plans.
In 2014, Adam began his career as a sales representative for Platinum Supplemental Insurance. It wasn’t long before they realized the Platinum-marketed policy made more sense for their family.
“There was some coverage under our other supplemental policy for things like heart attack and stroke, but the Platinum-marketed policy was so much more encompassing of other major things that could happen,” Heather said. “It just knocked the socks off the other supplemental policy when we were able to compare benefits – it wasn’t even in the same ball park. So, it made complete sense to us as a family to make a move to the Platinum-marketed policy.”
Their reasoning? Family history of critical illness factored into their decision – Heather’s father suffers from heart issues and has had multiple heart attacks. Their family’s personal experience with critical illness, along with added policy benefits for screenings and diagnostic tests, serves as a motivator for the family to be proactive about their health.
“The policy helps keep us on the ball to make sure we get in every year for our screening tests,” Heather said. “If we weren’t motivated by the fact that we are going to get reimbursed for this, we may just let it go and do them every two years or whatever. And, it’s kept Adam on track with his, too. It’s helped keep us in check with our own health.”
Timely and Helpful Customer Service Every Time
In addition to the confidence they have in their policy’s coverage, Adam and Heather have also benefitted from Platinum’s customer service, which Heather calls “phenomenal.” As a busy parent, she says it’s helpful to call in and reach a real person right away every time.
“At some places, you could potentially sit on hold for 10 to 15 minutes before you talk to a person. I’ve never had that happen when I call into the Platinum offices. Somebody’s there, ready to take my call. And if they don’t know the answer to a question, they’ll put me on hold for a minute or offer to call me back, and they actually call me back.”
For Adam and Heather, as parents, their Platinum-marketed policy helps them stay on top of things, as well as second-guess themselves a little less.
“You can’t predict what’s going to happen at your next physician’s office visit. You don’t know what it’s going to bring, and just knowing that we have this policy can give us some comfort in knowing that, financially, we’re going to be more easily able to navigate whatever life can throw at us.”
